Now I Can Die In Peace: Steve Caratzas is Number 1!

Er, in Issue 1, actually.

As reported by Ron Silliman here, and in blogs from as far away as Italy(!), I have been anthologized!

Along with about a jillion others (some poets, some who knows?) in a completely bizarre 3,785-page PDF collection.

Being a hopelessly self-involved attention whore, I could care less that I actually didn't write the poem attributed to me. In case you don't care to slog through the PDF looking for it (I'm on page 992, ahem) - and it isn't half bad! - I present my poem here:

Like a future

Placed
Reach
A lighted intended

Like an individual
A set of persons
Of past
A future
A set of bands

The unlit couples
An expedition of piles
Like a set
Like a match

A sort of aspiration

A carrier
Oblivion written with wilderness

In fact, I think I will claim ownership of the thing post haste. Why not? I've actually been trying to break out of the self-imposed limitations of my 8-word poems (fear not, I doubt I'll eveer truly get them out of my system) and my spliced together from conversations overheard/snippets recently read/nonsense half-remembered/inscrutable thoughts I wish I could forget routines.

Well, this poem - I have no idea who wrote it, or if it was even "written" - could be my springboard to that next voice.

Or not.

Why not?

Montreal 2008: Words and Pictures 6 - Say Hello to Mon Petit Ami (photo dedicated to Al Pacino)

I couldn't find the word dépanneur in my French phrase book (though dépanneuse is in there and it means "tow truck").

I've a pretty good hunch dépanneur translates roughly to something along the lines of "bodega" (for us New Yorkers) or "grocery store" or "convenience store" or whatever. Because that's what a dépanneur looked to be once I stepped inside: cigarettes, beers, chips, snacks, lottery tickets, etc.

I did not dare set foot in this one, labeled as it was as "Scarface". Hey, what can I tell you? The sight of a woozy proprietor snorting coke off of a baguette wasn't on my list of Montreal must-dos this time.

Maybe next year!

"Enjoy" This While You Can (And Bring a Sense of Irony to the Proceedings)

I simply can't stop watching this video! It's so amazingly wrong in every sense of the word!

It'll probably get yanked soon, due to "copyright violations" (what a joke), so tune in soon!

My question to you (after: was Kanye West actually welcomed to the stage or did he just decide to take over the finale?) is:

Have you ever seen a clearer example of someone who is so completely and utterly self-involved caught in their hopelessly defining moment of truth? (And, no, I'm actually not talking about Sting!)

Yikes! My worst score since I went to Leper Colony Club Med!

I found this poll over at rocketradio, a very entertaining blog recently added to my must-read list.

I always wanted to visit Toronto, after all the Hockey Hall of Fame is there. But after this, I wonder if I wouldn't be run out of town.

Also, my recent experiences in Montreal give me slight pause. There is clearly a divide between the two cities, from what I gather, though this might actually be a Quebec vs. the rest of Canada thing.

I do want to learn French, which while helpful in Montreal may be an obstacle in Toronto, dunno.

Je suis désolé!

You are 57% Toronto!

You're so Montreal! You tell everyone that you're from Toronto because it makes you sound cooler than you really are. You're not fooling anyone with that french accent, honey.

Would you eat a can of cat food for money?

And, perhaps more importantly, would you work in a place where such a thing occurs?

These are the questions that I continually grapple with at my place of employment.

And also, this question: Exactly when did I become the stable presence in a group of people?

An apparently bored individual walked around the office yesterday with a pad and pen asking who would be willing to pay $5 to watch someone eat a can of cat food, which he had at the ready. Or, would I be willing to eat a can of cat food, and for how much?

I declined to pay to witness the ingestion, but offered to eat the cat food if the price rose to $400. The person who did wind up eating it - and enjoying it, from what I've heard - was paid $105.

Thoughts?
