THERE WAS A PLACE, BUT THIS IS NOT THAT PLACE
Charisma beauty
I heard you saying something
about a limousine
a mile long
and all the boys
desperate enough to pander
that's galling
it should appear as tribute
and the effortlessness obvious
I heard of cities
Detroit, New York
and states
Wyoming and Montana, Nebraska
I don't know these
but I do hear awesome
without irony sometimes
in a voice suggesting
extra adenoids
when I sit still enough
it all passes by
in booming silence.

THE PRICE OF CHEAP HEAT
Watching your life flash
before my eyes I consider
cheap alternatives to after
life matriculation these are
the questions Dusty Rhodes
never wrestled with in a
steel cage how sour the taste
of your disapproval you'd
think I'd be used to the
flavor of defeat by now there
is no what I want what you
need it's all the same thing
and only ever increasing
we can no longer afford it.

THE SHIMMER THEORY
I heard about her plan to transcribe
my more outrageous tendencies
Standing bowlegged at the door
wishing you were there
Lord it shows
And for that I do apologize
The fear I ate in pie-sized slices
It was easier that way
And I'm nothing
If not easy
So many facets to such a dull concern
They let the tubes bleed out
everyone in on it
And when they blew their whistles
And cried everyone out of the pool
I detected a time signature shift
And heard you'd make a good cop.
