Slipshod Sonnet #11
I keep forgeting people have lives
When you keep sashaying away
I feel like hitting the Left Bank
With a vengeance worthy of Rambo
Thankfully I look horrid shirtless
So my vanity gets to remain intact
One more day at least is all I ask
The penthouse is the thirteenth floor
Superstition doesn't believe in me
The way it used to look with hair
Things get awful serene around here
My best day drunk my worst day sober
I keep forgetting people have to die
It is the order of things you know.
When you keep sashaying away
I feel like hitting the Left Bank
With a vengeance worthy of Rambo
Thankfully I look horrid shirtless
So my vanity gets to remain intact
One more day at least is all I ask
The penthouse is the thirteenth floor
Superstition doesn't believe in me
The way it used to look with hair
Things get awful serene around here

IT WASN’T LIKE THAT, THAT’S NOT THE WAY IT WAS
Freight and four sugars
really knocking things
loose for me I like the
sound of a milder orange
not so sure about mosquito
blood you heart him like
the son you'll never have
can you help find me?

sound of a milder orange

Slipshod Sonnet #10
What was the story again?
How did they treat you on the flight deck?
Define "squared away."
Is it better now or on Venus?
Will you ever finish planting those slumberland annuals?
Where's reaching for the stars ever gotten you?
Reach for the sky. No, that sky.
Millions in despair: "Is God listening?"
The only song she knows and not even all the words.
Something about "If I ever catch him around this henhouse again."
Are you sure you want to work for a company where they lie when
people get killed?
Can you prove it didn't happen?
Don't shit where your wife sleeps.
Stop eating all the evidence; we were supposed to share.
How did they treat you on the flight deck?
Define "squared away."

SIX UNANSWERED GOALS
Loving to read evacuation instructions after nightmares
involving tree-lined Connecticut streets and yellow crime scene tape
Negative capability—
Up shit's creek with a colorblind tour guide
Sin City Gentlemen's Cabaret: Dear Mongoloid,
Wish you could have seen him prance
{Two if by she}
"Excuse me" (Gestures to seat with lunch on it)
French noblemen blowing their noses into the Treaty of Versailles;
hubris deflates them like Patrick Roy after a tip in—
There was a sense of jamais vous & only a glance at her shoes.

WHEN YOU'RE TAKING YOUR LAST BREATH WILL YOU THINK OF THIS POEM?
A guy who is breaking into ventriloquism
A red glare in the Mexico City sunset
A can of peas with a fleur de lis
A sound reckoning of last night's debacle
A shitstorm waiting to happen
A certain something that cannot be identified
A left-handed guitar with a bad rosewood neck
A mystery that will never be solved
A wrist watch that's only right twice daily
A question of how the cat is seeming
A concern about loud pipes and frequent leaks
A masterful sense of the absurd
A little bit of this and not much of that
A one-way ticket on the last train
A tired pair of eyes
A secret overheard on the way to the morgue
A moral dilemma with green bunting
A red glare in the Mexico City sunset
A can of peas with a fleur de lis
A sound reckoning of last night's debacle
A shitstorm waiting to happen
A certain something that cannot be identified

NOT THE SORT OF "I LOVE YOU" YOU WERE COUNTING ON
for The Lewd Angel
Barely time to think through
your tobogganing plans and
seriously how much grandeur
and majesty can one stand
you say your stories are troubling
sometimes good way troubling
not life without parole style
or that's the smell of crazy
so take that boysenberry parfait
and honor it before anything else
put it where it will never melt
but hurry the sun is going down.
