DAY 21, POEM 21: TAKE WHAT YOU CAN GET AND FILL IN THE REST
Mistakes,
bad mistakes maybe,
in the long run
all shake out.
Even punch-drunk
you learn not to
miss too much:
a sense of smell helps.
Back in the jungle
with the priest,
caring but not caring,
more caring than not.
Is that something
you could live with?
Trying to teach Aristotle
a little decency?
Concerning the power
and the glory,
being fucked over:
a little is to be expected.
It has to be that way,
it's always been that way.
But not too bad,
not too bad.
bad mistakes maybe,
in the long run
all shake out.
Even punch-drunk
you learn not to
miss too much:
a sense of smell helps.
Back in the jungle
with the priest,
caring but not caring,
more caring than not.
Is that something
you could live with?
Trying to teach Aristotle
a little decency?
Concerning the power
and the glory,
being fucked over:
a little is to be expected.
It has to be that way,
it's always been that way.
But not too bad,
not too bad.
