WISHING I WAS HERE

Running from one-inch thoughts
like ass is on fire

wild is the wing indifferent
seeing the way it leans

used to carry more weight
then you need to move on

committed to the dignity of
be yourself in the bed

he is the nail I am the hammer
this broke-ass ship has those?

THE JUNK MAIL VARIATIONS: OPPORTUNITIES MAY ARISE IN AN INSTANT, OR THEY MAY DEVELOP

For then the ground car
hit a deep rut and lurched,
which knocked the scribing
pad from his lap

With a frown he picked it
up and dusted it off

He hated
this gritty, filthy planet,
but was stuck here

His thoughts
drifted...

Montreal 2008: Words and Pictures 2

Yikes.

This is one of the first sights spotted on my recent jaunt to Montreal. For a few scary moments I thought I was in Amsterdam - with little recollection of getting on a plane, etc.

Slowly regaining my senses, I relaized this was signage advertising a hemp products shop on Montreal's funky but chic Rue St. Denis. I recollect this establishment from a prior visit, but not the sign.

Je me souviens, I guess not.

And I report this from Nashville, Tennessee, where I am currently ensconced for my job, y'all.

I seem to forget my camera whenever I have an opportunity (very rare) for sightseeing, but I can say that Elvis is big here (in addition to Memphis), and the buskers all look like variations of Buck Owens.

3rd Place or Bust

Reader(s):

Permit me to extend my belated but heartfelt thanks to all who voted for me in the 2008 Poet Laureate of the Blogosphere election. Thanks to your votes I place a respectable, if distant, 3rd place among the many nominees.

The voting ended while I was without a consistent Internet connection in Montreal, and I've been playing catch up with my blogging, work and family duties since my return.

While I'm not surprised by the results (the winner and runner up were very far ahead from the beginning), I am thrilled to have made a splash.

Rest assured that I will be providing at least a 3rd place showing's worth of poetry on this very blog for the year to come.

Thanks again!

Good Lord, I missed a day of blogging!

Apologies, Reader(s)!

I spent most of Wednesday on the train enroute to where I now sit typing this very blog post: Montreal.

I'm having a blast enjoying my yearly dose of French, Canadiens hockey (on TV only, sadly - the playoff tickets are completely out of reach), poetry and sightseeing in that "feels like Paris, only closer" way.

Unfortunately, my hotel wifi is sketchy at best, and who wants to spend all day in an internet cafe playing Scrabulous when one can be visiting the gravesite of "Toe" Blake? Not I!

More updates, and pictures to (hopefully) follow soon.
